Kingscourt 1-18  Crosserlough 1-13

Kingscourt overcame Crosserlough on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-13 in an open and entertaining match at the Kilnaleck venue.

The Stars burst out of the starting blocks and raced into a four point lead, but inspired by veteran Adrian Reilly, Crosserlough edged back into the contest and it was then nip and tuck for most of the game with never more than a couple of points between the sides, until a decisive final five minutes.

Kingscourt always looked the better side however, with a full forward line that consistently had the beating of they’re markers, but it was only in those last five minutes that they managed to reflect this on the scoreboard. The decisive goal came from Gavin Sheenan followed by excellent work from super sub James Cunningham and Daryl Martin.

After a few final nervy moments, the welcome sound of referee Tony Gregory’s whistle signalled a welcome victory to stop the recent rot and a place in the quarter finals against the winners of Gowna and Killygarry, who must now replay after finishing all square on Tuesday night.

Every player played their part in the victory on the night with substitutes Thomas Rogers and James Cunningham also playing key roles.

With games now coming thick and fast, hopefully the momentum from earlier in the season has now been regained.
