Kingscourt 3-11 Knockbride 0-11
Kingscourt Juniors rounded of the season in style with a comprehensive victory over Knockbride down the park on Sunday. With a win needed to get into a promotion play-off the side started strongly with Seanie Farrelly, Ciaran Smith and Mattie Fitzsimmons getting the all important goals.
However, it was not all one way traffic and goalkeeper, Mark Cunningham, was called into action during the match with one cracking save being a particular highlight. A major boost to both the Seniors and Juniors this year has been the options from the bench and there were some impressive cameos from Joseph Farrelly and Eoin Cunningham who combined well to set up the final goal scoring opportunity for Mattie.
It’s the like of these upcoming players along with those young Stars already established in the Seniors, such as Barry Tully, Shane Gray and Philly Tinnelly who are currently providing the club with a bright future. At midfield, Neil McCabe & Gavin Sheenan formed a solid midfield partnership which meant Knockbride found it tough to win primary possession.
All that said though, we wouldn’t want lads getting carried away with themselves! A poor enough second half, allowed Knockbride narrow the gap and an element of indiscipline creeped into proceedings, particularly in back chat to the ref, so there’s still work to be done.
The league proper maybe over but with a Junior B semi-final and a play-off with Mullahoran and Cuchullains for just one promotion spot, there is still plenty to be played for before the seasons reaches it’s conclusion.
