Kingscourt w/o Cavan Gaels scr
The U-13′s made their way up to Terry Coyle park yesterday evening for their re-arranged league match against Cavan Gaels. With both sides pointless to date, a tight encounter was expected and looked forward to. Sadly though, despite Kingscourt arriving with 24 players for 6.30pm on a school night, the home side not only failed to show up, but failed to notify us that they would not be fielding a team.
Like ourselves, the Gaels have struggled in this division, and were unable to field a team against Crosserlough earlier in the week. However, James Brown’s side have fulfilled all their fixtures with credit despite being on the receiving end of some heavy defeats. A club the size of Cavan Gaels being unable to fulfill one fixture is disappointing, but it can happen.
Being unable to fulfill a second fixture (and a home one at that) later that week and not contacting the visiting team, who have trekked half the county to get their, is quite unacceptable behaviour altogether. In all their successes in recent years at all levels, every bit of it fully merited for all their efforts at underage level, I hope that this was just an unfortunate lapse in communication and that the underage management at the Gaels have not lost sight of the fact that the primary reason of GAA is participation and not just winning.
If every side that received a few hidings started to drop out, their would be very few sides left competing, and our U-13′s our a perfect example!
