Killeshandra 1-5 Kingscourt 1-16
Kingscourt secured promotion to Division One with yet another dominating display in Kildallon on Saturday when they easily overcome their nearest challengers. Despite the long trip Kingscourt opened sharply and found the net after just two minutes when apass from Barry Reilly was cleverly flicked on by Sean Og Gargan, deceiving the keeper, and ended in the back of the net.
Soon after a Darragh Gunne score was cancelled out by a Declan McKiernan free before further points from Reilly, Daryll Martin and Neil McCabe stretched the lead for Kingscourt. A close range Ryan Mc Cormack saw Kingscourt in full control with a disappointing Killeshandra only troubling the scoreboard operator through the free taking skills of Mc Kiernan.
At the halftime, the Stars were comfortably clear by 1-6 to 0-3. However, despite Kingscourt’s dominance in this division, the home side were only a point behind going into this match and showed a thruer reflection of themselves early in the second half. A purple patch in the opening ten minutes saw Rory Braden score 1-1 and Killashandra reduced the deficit to three points.
Kingscourt responded well with the midfield and half forward line in good form and they combined to carve up the Killeshandra defence on numerous occasions with Colm Smith finding the target along with McCabe, Gargan & Reilly.
Not to be outdone, the full forward line came into the mix in the last ten minutes with points from Gunne and McCormack knocking over some great scores along substitute Anthony Corcoran.
At the end, Kingscourt ran out easy winners and maintained their ten point winning average in a league campaign that has saw them ruthless in their quest for Division One football for 2010.
