Kingscourt 1-10  Shannon Gaels 3-7

The Stars first ever Division Three match ended in disappointment on Sunday when the visitors turned round a half time deficit with a quick two goal blitz late on to secure victory.

Shannon Gaels got of to a flyer and were up 1-2 to 0-0 within the first ten minutes. Kingscourt did manage to get to grips with the Gaels and lead at half time by a point thanks to fine individual goal from Daryll Martin, and points from Ryan McCormack and Colm Kieran.  The second half ebbed and flowed  but Kingscourt eventually took a four point lead with a dominant Ryan McCormack in fine form notching up eight points.

The Stars must have thought they had it wrapped didn’t realise that there was still ten minutes to play. The battle of Far East versus Far West was far from over and with two goals in the last few minutes, the Shannon Gaels men snatched victory which must have made their long trip home a little easier to manage. Kingscourt will be disappointed with the defeat but must admit they relied too heavily on the boot of Ryan McCormack, perhaps a strong ex-Irish International Centre-Half would have made a difference after all.

Shannon Gaels can now look forward to the season ahead and will be confident of having the fire power needed to achieve promotion to Division Two with in form forwards such as Eamonn O Reilly who thwarted the Kingscourt defence all day.
