Having been denied the three in a row in 1988, the team started of again in 1989 and reclaimed the title with a victory over rivals Ramor Utd. This was followed up by a comfortable double when they defeated Mullahoran in the 1990 Final.
Below is a picture of that team’s leading light, Jim Reilly, with one of his many Man of the Match awards, this time from the 1990 final.
That year they progressed to their 2nd Ulster final when they defeat Coalisland (Tyrone) and St. Gall’s (Antrim) along the way. The latter game won by a “Roy of The Rovers” moment from Padraig McCormack in the last minute. Put through on goal with the scores level, the whole ground, barely able to look, prayed that he would just fist it over. Padraig though, the only calm person in O’Raghallaigh Park at the time, cooly slotted to the back of the net for victory. That’s how I remember it anyway!
Eh, we lost the final and we’ll quickly move on!
IN 1991, the “3peat” was delivered when Kingscourt defeated surprise finalists Crosserlough in the final. The outcome was never in doubt wityh a comprehensive 3-11 to 0-10 victory Joe McCarthy claiming Man of The Match with 0-7, Padraig McCormack bagging 2-1 and Michael Faulkner getting the other goal.
