59 years is an awful long time to wait for a Senior Championship and the team below is the famous team that ended this famine by defeating Crosserlough in the 1980 Final.
At the time Crosserlough would have been the top team in the county and it was a measure of the success when Pat Tinnelly referred to the 0-10 to 0-8 victory as akin to “beating Kerry in an All-Ireland”.
The side acquitted themselves well intheir first ever Ulster Club campaign defeating Clann na Gael (Armagh) before losing to eventual Ulster Champions, Scotstown (Monaghan) in the semi-final.
Having waited 59 years for one Senior Championship, the next followed just 12 months later when they doubled up by defeating Drumalee 1-9 to 0-4 after a replay. They again faced Clann na Gael in Ulster and defeated them 1-8 to 1-6, although I can’t actually tell you how defeated them in Ulster that year.
I’m sure someone did though, as I reckon there would be a few pictures lying about if they won it out! Drop us a mail if you can let me know…

This side, along with the previous year’s U-21 success backboned the glorious run of success, of eight championships in 13 years that the club was going to enjoy. Good looking bunch of lads they were too. I’d say they were all fierce popular out at the Granada alright!!
