KINGSCOURT 2-9  ST. JOSEPH’S 1-10

The U-16′s ground out a great win over St. Joseph’s to secure a place in the Divison 1 League Final with a 2-09 to 1-10 victory in PJ Duke Park, Stradone. In a cracking match, played in excellent conditions, the young Stars overcome a slow start to finish strongly and gain a deserved victory.

Having lost to St. Joseph’s at home in the league it was felt a good start was vital. Sadly this did not occur and we trailed 0-4 to 0-1 after just 10 minutes. However, the renewed spirit in the side was evident as they recovered to lead 0-6 to 0-4 at halftime.

A super second half by both teams saw it nip and tuck the whole way through.  We looked comfortable as we entered the final quarter after  a great Ryan McCullagh fisted goal but us five points clear. However, St. Joe’s replied with a goal themselves minutes later to get back in the game.

With eight minutes to go it was all square and up for grabs when Dylan Ward finished a great move to the net. (He also finished our top scorer with an impressive 1-01 from play.

St. Joe’s naturally threw everything at us in the final minutes but we hung on for a deserved win. A absolutely fantastic team performance and the Gaels now await in the final.
