Kingscourt’s First County Championship Win
- The Anglo-Celt – Saturday, September 10th. 1921 – Kingscourt Champions
The County final at Virginia on Sunday was favoured with delightful weather and as the gate of £55.00 would indicate, the attendance was of a satisfactory nature, play opened lively, Kingscourt scoring an early point, which Bruskey soon levelled up. Before the interval the Stars added 0-3 and crossed over with a lead of 0-4 to 0-1.
The second period opened with a fierce attack, striking the cross-bar at least three times, but the ball rebounded into play, so that golden opportunity went wrong. Kingscourt now showed up well and combining nicely, overrunning their opponents, many of whom lost their heads, so to speak, and the number of fouls, to a great extent, spoiled this half, which was not up to the standard of a senior County final.
To make matters worse, the referee was obliged to send two players to the side-line. The Stars asserted their superiority in unmistakable fashion, running up 0-5 to just 0-1 for the McDermotts.
Result: Kingscourt 0-9 McDermotts 0-2
