Cavan Gaels 0-21 Kingscourt 0-7
Contrary to rumours, there was no earthquake in the middle of Cavan last Saturday night. However, at about 8.15pm the Senior side came crashing back to earth when county champions, Cavan Gaels, handed out a severe 0-21 to 0-7 beating to the previously unbeaten Stars.
A level opening quarter saw the sides exchange scores as they went point for point to be level at 0-4 each after 15 mins, with Mark McKeown to the fore for the Stars. However, the Seanie Johnston show was about to get under way and five points from him in 10 mins gave the Gaels daylight, and when Martin Dunne joined in all of a sudden we trailed 0-11 to 0-4 at halftime.
When the same two combined for two early 2nd half scores the game was well and truly up. Substitutes rang out from both sides as the game progressed and late scores from Philly Smith & Daryl Martin saw us tag on a few more to the scoreboard. However at the end it as a very comprehensive defeat and one which we can have no complaints from.
After that defeat, we will all be very happy to get back to O’Raghallaigh Park when we are due to host Castlerahan on Sunday @ 7pm. However, it now appears that if Cavan win on Saturday this game will not go ahead, but it will if we lose (even though the Ulster draw has been known since last year and our next match is the last weekend in June either way!) I have giving up trying to understand….
