SENIORS

The Seniors got their championship campaign back on track on Sunday evening with a straightforward 1-18 to 0-7 victory over Blackwater Gaels in Stradone. A reaction from the previous week’s disappointment was evident and Kingscourt started strongly and an early goal set them on their way.  10 points clear at halftime they had the luxury of emptying the bench in the second half and pulling up before the end.

A bright start saw two early points on the board before Philly Smith finished off a slick passing move to put the Stars 1-2 to 0-1 in front after 10 mins.  Kingscourt further turned the screw as the points rained in from all players and angles as Kingscourt extended their lead to 1-7 to 0-1 after 20 mins with Barry Reilly and Mark McKeown raising the white flag among others.

With Tommy Wakley keeping Blackwater dangerman, David Givney, under control, the Gaels brought him out to midfield for the remainder of the half.  However this reduced the options inside and Kingscourt comfortably remained in control and extended their lead to 1-10 to 0-2 at halftime with points from Mossy Malone, Colm Smith & Ryan McCormack.

Once Kingscourt built on their lead with three further points early in the second half, the game was played out at a fairly pedestrian pace,  The final quarter saw various subs enter the fray, both sides exchange 10 points equally and all eyes & minds turned to next weekend, with Kingscourt looking towards Redhills, and the Blackwater lads probably focusing on their respective important Junior championship deciders.

Kingscourt will play an unbeaten Redhills side in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday 8th @ 7.30pm.  A large and vocal support made their way to Stradone on Sunday evening (many happy before the game even started!), hopefully an even bigger crowd can see their way to Breffni this Sunday to cheer on the Stars as we look for the win that will guarantee a quarter-final spot.

MINORS

The Minors lined out for their championship opener on Monday afternoon in Kill and gained a comfortable 1-10 to 0-5 victory over St. Finbarrs.

A tight opening quarter saw scores at a scarcity with both defenses on top.  However the young Stars kicked on in the second quarter and led 0-7 to 0-0 at halftime with the watertight Kingscourt defence putting in a fantastic performance.  The second half saw a Joe Dillon goal seal matters.

They now face Eire Og Celtics in the semi-finals of the championship. The game is fixed for Wed 11th but may well change, so click here for further updates as the week progresses.

LIVE STREAMING

Kingscourt Stars GAA made history on 13th July 2010 when they became the first Cavan & Ulster GAA club (and just the 2nd in Ireland) to stream a live match on their website.

We are taking our second steps this Wednesday when we stream our first competitive match @ 7.30pm when we host Gowna in the 1st Rd of the Junior B Championship.  With both teams having serious designs on winning the Junior B this should hopefully be another great match not lacking in skill or intensity.

As it’s Junior B, you never know what future talent or past great you might say on show…..  So just click here @ 7.30pm on Wed 4th Aug, it should be a cracker.  With a bit of tweaking over the last couple of weeks, the quality should be a bit clearer & smoother, heck we’ll even have a commentator!!
