CLUB DAY

The club marked the GAA’s 125yr anniversary with a club day last weekend.  Event’s started on the Saturday with a BBQ & GAA quiz in M&F’s Bar. Click here to have a go at the questions, we’ll post answers next week. A great night was had by all and the night ended with an impromptu sing along with a number of the Senior Panel, showing that they can hold a note, as well as a football.

On the Sunday, we were blessed with fine sunshine and events kicked off with the St. Mary’s Brass & Reed Band leading the parade of club members from Carney’s Field (the original grounds) down to the park. This was followed by a juvenile blitz and then a mixed blitz which last thru the day, with Philly Smith’s Kerry team winning out in the end.

There was also a superb collection of old club cuttings & memorabilia on display in the pavilion alongside old video footage of underage games and also a presentation on the new club website.  This display will remain up for another fortnight and can be viewed at any upcoming matches or training sessions.  It’s well worth a look  to anyone with an interest in the club.

While this was a great hit with the older club members, the younger members enjoyed the bouncing castle and face-painting. All told, it was a fantastic weekend and the superb weather ensured there was a large and vibrant crowd there to enjoy it.  It was great to see some of the old faces, and also some new ones, and we hope that both will be seen again at the upcoming matches over the Summer months.

A huge thank you to all those involved in the organising committee and those who lent items for display.  The event ran off spectacularly and also a big thank you to all those who helped out on the day with commentaries, stewarding, shop-keeping etc..

A commemerative mug marking the occasion featuring the club crest is still available and can be bought in M&F’s or Pat Faulkner’s or down at the pavilion at the next committee meeting.
