Killinkere 0-6
Kingscourt 1-13
Kingscourt maintained their bid back to Division One of the All County Football League with a resounding win away to Killinkere last Saturday.
In the damp conditions, it was the hosts that made the better start to the game when wing back Paddy Smith raced forward to notch over the first point.
Mark McKeown almost immediately levelled for the league-leaders before full-forward Philip Smith complimented the effort and McKeown doubled his tally to put the town side two in front.
Former county senior James Clarke finished off a fine move on Killinkere’s behalf to bring the difference down to the minimum, but over from Anthony Corcoran and nippy half-forward Philip Tinnelly (2) meant that Kingscourt would bring in a 0-6 to 0-2 lead at the break, with the wind in their favour for the second-half.
Early on in the restart, the visitors ushered themselves towards the win with their impressive forwards earning frees in front of goal, which suited both Corcoran and McKeown to point.
It took eight minutes of the resumption for Killinkere to muster a response through Brian Clarke, but white flags from Colm Smith and McKeown looked to have Kingscourt home and dry.
Two points from James Clarke looked to have given the home side some glimmer of hope until Philip Smith dashed through and finished a well-worked move to the back of Simon Delaney’s net before Sean Og Gargan sealed a comfortable victory for the now Division One-bound side with a point in injury-time.
