Kingscourt 2-8  Cavan Gaels 0-14

The Seniors will have to battle it out with Cavan Gaels again to decide who is crowned ACFL Div 1 champs for 2010 after an entertaining 2-8 to 0-14 draw in Kingspan Breffni Park on Sunday evening.

A dream start saw Mossy Malone goal in the opening minute but frees from Sean Johnston and a Martin Dunne point had the Gaels level by the 10th minute. However a quick 1-1 from Ryan McCormack restored the Stars lead the remainder ofthe half saw both sides miss many chances for both goals and points.  Before the break though both teams registered further scores with Philly Smith getting the best of those for the Stars, who led 2-3 to 0-6 at the break.

The 2nd half saw a familiar pattern of the Gaels narrowing the gap to one point, and Kingscourt then extending it back to three.  However despite McCormack and Mark McKeown hitting the target, we could just not pull away and two late points from the Gaels, the final one a calmly fisted injury time score from Anthony Forde, saw them tie matters on the stroke of fulltime.

The replay will take place in Lavey on Sunday 7th November at 12.30pm and we would ask everybody to make one last big effort  (I definitely promise this will be the last one this year!) to cheer the lads on as they try and secure The Double.
